The USA has delayed the launch of the Minuteman III ICBM, but plans to carry it out in the near future
WASHINGTON, August 4 – RIA Novosti. National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said the United States has delayed the launch of an ICBM test due to the tense situation in the Indo-Pacific region, but plans to do so in the near future.
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that the US postponed the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile tests scheduled for this week to avoid tensions in relations with China. The US Air Force planned to test launch a rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The newspaper’s source said the test was delayed at the behest of Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. It was not specified how long the test was delayed.
The launch, which has been postponed many times due to the tension with Russia, is thought to have been postponed this time in order not to worsen relations with China, which reacted sharply to the Taiwan visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.
Kirby added that a new test date has already been confirmed, but declined to disclose.
“There is a specific date. That (test) has been postponed for a very short time,” he said.
