Russian Foreign Ministry: The world walks on the sidelines if Ukraine bombs the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant
MOSCOW, August 10 – RIA Novosti. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that in the situation around Kiev’s attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the world is “walking on the sidelines”, that the UN secretariat acted irresponsibly by blocking the IAEA mission.
“It seems to me that the UN Secretariat, dealing with the problem of nuclear energy in the broadest sense in general, including the consequences of man-made disasters, should understand that the world is walking on the fringes. And these are the dangers of scientists conducting experiments for the well-being of the world, for development, for the search for alternative energy sources. They are not experiments, and these are criminal acts with devastating, consequences, as part of the absolutely unlawful activities of the Kyiv regime. It will not be limited to any geographical boundary,” he said on the Sputnik radio station.
“This is not just an unstudied decision, or on the contrary motivated by a desire to prevent certain excesses in the framework of security. This is a decision that prevents Grossi from traveling to Zaporozhye with an international inspection. The NPP is leading a series of irresponsible, very dangerous events.” said.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the UN Secretariat Security Department did not coordinate the trip of the IAEA Director-General to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which allowed Kiev to again carry out provocations at the power plant site.
Earlier, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, expressed his concerns about the bombing of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. According to him, military actions that threaten the security of the ZNPP are “totally unacceptable and must be avoided at all costs.” Grossi emphasized that IAEA experts are ready to lead its mission on safety, protection and safety measures at nuclear power plants. Since the beginning of the special operation, Ukrainian troops made several attempts to attack the territory of the nuclear power plant. As a result of several artillery strikes, a fire broke out on the scene, two power lines necessary for the operation of the power units were cut. At the nuclear power plant, part of the equipment of power unit No. 3 was de-energized, and the generated power of power unit No. 4 was reduced.
The head of the administration of the Zaporizhzhya region, Yevhen Balitsky, said that the IAEA leadership was aware of the risks associated with the bombing of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by Ukrainian troops, but did not take real measures to stop them.
