Senator Pushkov: Europe’s stance on Ukraine’s attacks on Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is surprising

MOSCOW, August 13 – RIA Novosti. Senator Alexei Pushkov commented The bombing of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by Ukrainian troops, he described the EU’s response to these attacks as “total amazement”.

“The United States is far away, they don’t care, but Europe’s attitude towards Ukraine’s bombing of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is totally baffling. Isn’t it scary to get a second Chernobyl?” the senator asked on his Telegram channel.

ZNPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper, near the city of Energodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of number of units and installed power. It has six power units. The station has been guarded by the Russian army since March. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the rationale for putting the power plant under the protection of the Russian Armed Forces in terms of preventing nuclear and radioactive material leaks.

Since the beginning of the special operation, Ukrainian troops made several attempts to attack the territory of the nuclear power plant. The shelling has become more frequent since 5 August. On the night of August 7, Ukrainian troops launched an attack on the ZNPP from the Uragan MLRS, parts and a rocket engine fell about 400 meters from the operating power unit of the station, Energodar officials reported. After the bombardment, the two power units did not work at full capacity.
