According to the doctor. Elena Solomatina, a Russian nutrition expert, blood sugar levels can rise even after eating bitter foods if the glycemic index is high.
In an interview with the newspaper “Izvestia”, the expert points out that foods made from white flour that contain sugar can cause a sharp rise in blood sugar levels. Also, bitter foods can cause the same thing.
“All sugary soft drinks, which irritate the mucosa, help to accelerate the absorption of sugar”, he says. “Blood sugar levels can also go up when you eat candy and things made with white flour. These products can have a bitter taste. But they have a high glycemic index.”
According to him, it is better to eat foods that do not contribute to raising blood sugar levels.
“These foods usually don’t contain sugar, like leafy greens and leafy greens, so they can absorb blood sugar and make up for your levels,” he says.
He points out that other factors that contribute to the development of diabetes and pre-diabetes are insulin resistance, genetic predisposition, chronic stress and being overweight.
