Polish and Czech Republic Air Forces to patrol the skies over Slovakia abandoning MiG-29

WARSAW, August 27 – RIA Novosti. Polish and Czech Air Forces will patrol the airspace of Slovakia after the end of the operation of MiG-29 fighters, informs Polish radio.

Slovakia will decommission its Soviet-made MiG-29 fighters at the end of this August. The head of the Slovak Ministry of Defense offers to transfer 11 fighters of this type to Ukraine.

“The head of the Polish Ministry of National Defense, Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, together with the defense ministers of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, signed a statement on the protection of the Slovak sky by the Polish and Czech air forces. The task will begin on September 1 and will last for a year and a half.”

The declaration was signed at the Kuchin airbase in Slovakia.

Blaszczak, quoted by Polish Radio, stated that a pair of F-16 fighter jets will patrol the Slovak skies from the Polish side.
